Fertilizer Ordinance Questions

Q - How will the fertilizer ordinance affect my lawn price?

A - Nitrogen applications will now have to consist of slow release and extended release blends which are higher priced materials.  Summer time nutritional feeding will consist of pro-humic and chelated micronutrients.  The combination of these products is also a higher cost alternative to liquid nitrogen sources.  We will absorb these higher costs without impact to our customers.
Q - What is humic acid?
A - Humic acid is the commercial term for naturally occurring organic materials derived from the decomposition of plant and animal residues by microorganisms, under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, in soils, composts, peat bogs and water basins.  Benefits include:

  • Addition of organic matter to deficient soils
  • Improved root vitality & nutrient uptake
  • Increased beneficial microbial activity

Q - What are chelated micronutrients?
A - Chelation is a process of enclosing an inorganic nutrient with an organic molecule.  Iron, zinc, copper, magnesium and manganese are commonly chelated turf nutrients.   Chelated nutrients will more efficiently enter the plant root system and leaf surface.

Q - Can my back yard that is on a water body still be serviced?

A - Depending on your location, the ordinances prohibit nitrogen and phosphorous within 10' to 15' of water bodies and even up to 25' along the lagoon.  However, they do not prohibit the application of nutritional supplements, insecticide or weed control.  Per BMPs, no applications will be made within the 3' Ring of Responsibility.

Q - Should I skip applications during the summer?

A - We can oblige your requests; however, re-treatment guarantees and no-charge call back services are reserved for regular service accounts in good standing.  Service intervals beyond 60 days are no longer maintenance level and typically require additional materials for corrective action thus are priced higher.    We will continue to provide nutritional supplements during the summer as well as manage chinch bug and weed populations.
